Handrail Splicing on Existing Units
When performed by properly equipped and trained personnel, field splicing can offer a tremendous cost savings over endless installation in the following ways:
Eliminates the need to disassemble and reassemble the escalator or moving walkway.
Significantly reduces the labor hours required to change 1 or 2 handrails.
Handrail Splicing on New Construction Units
While most handrails for new construction units are endless and installed on the unit as it is being built, in some cases it is preferable to order open ended handrails and have them spliced at the jobsite.
On some new construction units, it is very difficult to accurately predict the length of the handrail that is needed. In these cases, the best solution is to overestimate the length by a min of 1000mm of the estimated length and have the handrail spliced to fit at the jobsite.
